Michelle Childs was appointed the newest member of the Lakeland School Board on July 11, 2019. She replaces Teresa Henry on the Board and is the second appointee of this year. Mrs. Childs has been a resident of Lakeland since 2008. She has 20 years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, primarily working with Youth Villages for 16 years assisting foster children and working closely with the Tennessee Department of Children Services’ educational attorney. She has also worked as a volunteer for Crisis Text Line, assisting suicidal people as young as 11 years old in crisis.
Mrs. Childs will have children in 5th and 8th grades at LMPS. She is passionate about Lakeland students receiving an excellent education as well as schools meeting the students’ mental health needs.
We once again commend the Board of Commissioners for making an outstanding choice in candidates. We believe that Mrs. Childs will bring a viewpoint and expertise to the Board that will be extremely beneficial. We congratulate Mrs. Childs and her family in this achievement and wish her luck.
